CEO update

Dear members,

Our AGM was held on 6 November 2021, where Board Director Dr Keith Gleeson stepped down after several years of service to AIDA. The SRC Director, Ella Ceolin completed her one-year tenure on the Board and also stepped down at the AGM. Keith and Ella, thank you for your dedication and commitment to strengthening the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce. You will be sorely missed.

I am pleased to announce that Dr Corey Dalton was appointed to the AIDA Board. A very warm welcome to Corey!

We were very pleased to host our stakeholders, Canberra members, and friends of AIDA at our Canberra event on 19 November. It was fantastic to see so many familiar and new faces and give everyone an update on AIDA’s plans for 2022. We also took the time to farewell AIDA’s Policy Manager and long-time friend, Mary Guthrie, as she enjoys her well-earned retirement! Thank you to all who attended.

If you haven’t visited your AIDA member portal yet, I encourage you to login soon. We have some very special yarns with Adam Goodes, as well as Dr Kelvin Kong, Dr Ty Clayworth, and Dr Anita Watts. I encourage you to spend a few minutes listening to their yarns. They have some very inspirational messages. If you don’t have login details, please contact Secretariat on aida@aida.org.au.

AIDA is deeply concerned about the Meeting of Attorneys General (MAG) proposal to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 12. AIDA strongly advocates to raise the age to 14 at the minimum, in line with health advice. See our media release on this matter in the newsletter below.

I am pleased to welcome our HR Executive Manager Corporate Services Helen Roben and Executive Manger Policy, Juleigh Langenberg. Both Helen and Juleigh come to AIDA with a wealth of experience in their fields. We are very excited to have them on board!

A further welcome to Senior Policy Officer Lisa Peric, Communications Support Officer Jack Larkin, and Membership Support Officer Terri Jacobs.

As the year comes to a close, I look forward to getting in touch with you again in December for a special Christmas-themed WardRound. Until then, please remember that AIDA is here for you always. Your work is essential, but so are you.

Take care,

Monica-Barolits McCabe

CEO, AIDA
