AIDA welcomes Dr Peter Malouf as our new CEO

We are delighted to announce that Dr Peter Malouf (PhD, MPH, AICD) has commenced today as AIDA’s Chief Executive Officer. 

Peter is a proud Wakka Wakka and Wuli Wuli descendant from Central Queensland and a highly respected leader across the health sector. 

He brings extensive experience to AIDA, including: 

  • Adjunct Associate Professor in Public Health and Tropical Medicine, James Cook University (Townsville) 
  • Board Director, Cancer Institute NSW (Observer, Audit & Risk Committee) 
  • Board Director, Indigenous Wellbeing Centre, Bundaberg 
  • Former CEO, Townsville Aboriginal & Islander Health Service 
  • More than 25 years’ experience as a senior health executive 

AIDA President Dr Jonathan Newchurch said: 
“We are extremely pleased to appoint Dr Peter Malouf as the next CEO of AIDA. We believe he brings the necessary skills, along with cultural leadership that aligns strongly with our new strategic plan to embed cultural governance throughout the organisation. Peter will help take AIDA into its next iteration to fulfil our purpose.” 

Dr Peter Malouf shared his aspirations as the new AIDA CEO: 
“As I step into this role, it is important for me to drive a vision of hope and change. As a member organisation, we must listen, value, respect, and collaborate. AIDA has an important role in Closing the Gap, and I look forward to working with our strategic partners to ensure we have real impact. 

“My role as CEO is to provide leadership to deliver on the strategic plan, working closely with the Board and our incredible staff who create meaningful engagement and opportunities for our members. We will continue strengthening our role in building the next generation of health practitioners.” 

Dr Peter Malouf’s leadership strongly aligns with AIDA’s strategic direction to embed cultural governance, strengthen the Board–Leadership partnership, and deepen member engagement and impact.
